Another module under way

I like the charm of those inky-dinky railroad scenes. This quaint station and other Campbell kits are combined with the "John Allen" engine house. Other scratch built features are added as my imagination allows. These photos were shot at the half way point of construction to see how everything fits together. The motivation came from the Fine Scale Miniatures kit sold out many years ago. I built the engine house just by looking at the picture from that ad.

The ground cover in the background is real stamp sand from the old Calumet & Hecla mining company I brought back from Michigan this summer.

That Campbell's "Skull Valley Station" shows promise of eventually becoming a fine model. The kit was copied after the real station that still stands in Skull Valley AZ and maintained by the local Historical Society. Santa Fe trains pass by daily. Yes, that is hand laid code 70 track with my #1022 Kaibab Limestone ballast as this branch line is named the "Kaibab Northern"  The detail and weathering is close too what I had in mind.
The track side platforms and freight loading dock are done. The Campbell's traveling crane fits nicely in the scene with the corrugated tool shed in the background. The final scene will be heavily forested with the native Ponderosa and Juniper as seen on my "Tree Page".

Taken with my Daughter's $100.00 digital camera and the color is more natural than the shot at left with my seven year old digital. Now I have to invest in a high resolution camera for the detail to show up at close range. Click on picture to see foreground focus flaw.
