I declared war on cobwebs, dust, ashes and damaged scenery close to the edge of the layout.
Sliding Plexiglass panels that can lift out or slide by were installed around a portion of the layout. This is a double decker with this upper level for storing finished structures when needed. That will for sure get the same plexiglass treatment in the near future.

Placing interesting detailed scenes next to the very edge of the layout (edge at lower left) will stay clean and protected behind plexiglass. This makes a case for other issues about model railroads. I asked myself these questions and statements before I made this radical plunge.

1. Is lifting out panels to operate trains take less time than cleaning the track.

2. I'll never have to clean the scenery that is not cleanable no matter what method you use.

3. Detailed scenes next to the edge eventaily get damaged walking by.

After the plexiglass was install, the layout was like viewing a framed picture an lite only with rope lights

This is where the Plexiglass protection ends and is to the immediate right of the scene above. Scenery such as this gets dirty and difficult to clean.
